Raised within a clandestine government experiment in old Tokyo, this orphan was part of a group of children trained by Colonel Shikishima to harness psychic abilities. Alongside lifelong friends Kiyoko and Takashi, he survived the catastrophic psychic explosion caused by Akira’s ascension, which leveled the city and led to the birth of Neo-Tokyo. To suppress their growing powers, the government kept the remaining Espers in isolation, using drugs that caused premature aging and left him physically disabled and reliant on a specialized wheelchair.
