This scientist and doctor frequently appears in Tezuka's manga, often playing a morally ambiguous role. Unlike other characters, he is not always driven by altruism; instead, he often acts as an accomplice to negative forces, accepts bribes, or makes questionable decisions, frequently leading to negative outcomes. In the Metropolis setting, he is known by the alias Dr. Laughton.
