When his creations, the Players, escaped, he initiated Project Z.E.T. in a desperate attempt to rectify the situation, though his plans were repeatedly thwarted by betrayal. Despite his initially harsh methods, facing repeated destruction, he now offers a choice to Jin regarding ZET's fate, suggesting a shift in his character's perspective.
