Ojoshi-sama

As the inaugural woman sacrificed to the Sea God, this legendary figure eventually became his bride. Though often depicted through inaccurate wooden figures, the true Ojoshi-sama was a frail, freckled woman haunted by her lingering feelings for a surface dweller. After her lover tragically drowned while attempting to rescue her, the Sea God allowed her to return to the land, but only at the heavy price of her capacity to love.
