Driven by a traumatic childhood loss during an underground avalanche, this young, timid digger initially struggles with intense fear and low self-esteem. While working to expand his village's tunnels, he relies on the charismatic Kamina for guidance and inspiration. His life changes forever when he unearths a mysterious, glowing drill and a miniature mecha known as Lagann. By piloting this powerful machine, he overcomes his cowardice to defend his people and ultimately begins his journey toward the surface world.
